Emily Alone is a collection of songs made by Florist songwriter Emily Sprague during a time of great stillness and isolation with the self. An attempt to capture the dark spaces between change and acknowledge their beauty. It is a natural, isolated, and momentary tangent away from the otherwise collaborative project that is Florist, while still maintaining the documentary nature of the band that, like all things, is a mutable entity in this universe.

Hatchie has released the final single from Keepsake. "Obsessed" is released alongside a video of endearing footage from their most recent full US tour. Keepsake will be available everywhere on June 21st!
"As she sings in a whispery voice, guitars cushion her voice, fading in and out like a crossover of stringy ’90s indie rock, gentle shoegaze, and electronic dream pop."
—Consequence of Sound
“Obsessed” pushes the singer further into shoegaze-y territory, with fuzzy guitar and searing lyrics reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine and the Cocteau Twins: “Hung myself out to dry till you let me in/That’s when I knew I’d clip my wings, do anything for you.”
Tickets on sale Friday, May 17th. Get them at hatchie.net.
Gemma have released their final single "Til We Lose The Feeling" and it's the most electrifying one yet. Felicia and Erik wrote a short essay about the track and the movement and catharsis it creates.
Felicia and Erik of Gemma wrote an essay for Talkhouse about the song:
“‘Til We Lose The Feeling” is my love song to New York: A celebration, a thank you for knocking me down and lifting me up day after day. I’m fascinated by how this city is romanticized on television and the big screen, and I wanted this song to reflect that magical instance of being whisked away in it. New Yorkers take so much pride in the hustle and people latch onto the idea of this intangible pulsating energy in the air. I grew up in Manhattan and one of my favorite things is to walk miles and miles without a destination. It’s nice to take it all in and feel the city breathe. —Felicia Douglass
“'Til We Lose the Feeling” has become an important part of the live Gemma show, functioning as the closing song of our set. After the standard six to seven songs of a typical New York show, it’s our last bid for some catharsis with the audience, or as Felicia puts it so well, to “find a way around what’s draining us.” And it almost always works, for me at least. —Erik Gundel

while maintaining sounds that defined his recognizable contributions to LVL UP.
Am I will be released on May 24th!

Pressed on baby pink vinyl and limited to 500 copies! Preorder here.
Gemma's new single "Miss U" from the upcoming full-length Feeling's Not A Tempo is now available everywhere! It's conversational, sparkly, and will definitely get caught in your head.
"[Douglass'] voice sounds absolutely magical here — the way she slips in and around all of these different attitudes: defiance and vulnerability and humor and resolution. The song is conversational but direct, and the twinkling fervor that Douglass and Gundel build up around those threads of thought is dreamy but solid." —Stereogum
"It’s a bouncy pop tune that finds vocalist Felicia Douglass keeping her subject at arm’s length: “I might miss you but I won’t show it,” she sings over skittering drums and swelling synths." —Paste Magazine
Hatchie has released a song and music video for "Stay With Me" —
which she refers to as a song for "those crying in the club moments."
"The yearning chorus of “Stay With Me,” punctuated with ethereal stabs of ‘90s synth,
is delicious in its desperation and incredibly catchy. It’s a promising second look at the
surprises Hatchie has in store on Keepsake." —Paste Magazine
"Stay With Me" is the second single from the upcoming full-length Keepsake, out June 21st!

It's true — Free Cake for Every Creature will play their final two shows in New York and Philadelphia this May. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to work with Free Cake for so many years and on so many great releases. Their catalog will forever be DDW classics in our hearts :”)

Free Cake for Every Creature on their first tour
Dear friends, I’ve decided to end “free cake for every creature,” in goodwill & and gratitude for everything the project has given me. Both my pride in “The Bluest Star” & our recent European tour have beyond exceeded any hope or expectations I had for the band & it just feels right to end now, on a high note. I hope you’ll join us for our final two shows in NY & Philly (more info below). If you're in the midwest, we're also playing The Flyover Fest May 11 in Columbus.
I’m eager to move on to other projects, but playing with free cake was the best way I could have spent half my 20’s. I’ve learned so much about how I want to be as an artist and person, gotten to see a lot of our country and the world, and found my community among the smartest and weirdest creatures in the universe. Thank you so much for being part of it <3
You can keep updated with me over on instagram (@katiepbennett) for now. I'm slowly working on more music & longform writing projects. From Diane di Prima: “Looking at the sky, I know I will be a poet, and knowing that know what I will lose. Have only the dimmest sense of what I will gain. What I step into now. What might be mine. Embrace this new thing, my will.
Listen to the lead single "Only One" from Gemma's forthcoming full-length — "Feeling's Not A Tempo" out May 31st, 2019.
"The track emanates glittering synths but also features some sharp percussion and sticky bass licks underscoring Douglass’ unimpeachable vocals." —Stereogum
Here's Gemma's take on the track:
“I wanted to express a bold and confident narrative from a woman’s perspective, essentially telling someone to leave their comfort zone and give more,” Felicia Douglass says of “Only One.” “There’s a thread of surrendering to dream scenarios across the album, escaping your reality for just a second to get by.”
For Erik Gundel, the lead single is "about the butterflies you get in your stomach when contact with someone first shifts into the romantic and how you need to remind yourself to be open to those experiences,” he says

What is 'M for Empathy'?
My new album ’M for Empathy' is mostly things said or shoulda said.
Much of it, and it's just a lil of all that’s coming, came to me, or
outta me, outta a deepening silence. Something you can hear a lot of.
It made a way for me to say many things that were necessary to voice.
It also let me not say and just sing as much as I wanted, which is
important too. Making peace with the word in me, just a lil, all my

Based in Brooklyn, NY, Gemma is the experimental pop project of Felicia Douglass (Ava Luna, Dirty Projectors) and producer Erik Gundel. The two released a full-length album "As Ever" in 2015 and will return with their fantastic follow-up album in 2019 via Double Double Whammy.
Watch a short teaser below:
If you want to get to know Gemma a little more — check out the title track from "As Ever" below, which The New York Times regarded as "...a silky, poppy new project with plenty of open space, mid-'80s R&B hooks and gently skittering beats."
Gemma will also be playing at Mercury Lounge in NYC on March 12th — tickets for that show are here: http://bit.ly/2DGaVZw
Stay tuned for more in the next few weeks <3

Sean Henry is also hitting the road to celebrate the release of "Fink" — find all details over at our tour page.
"Bennett, in particular, is adept at shaping her whispered vocals into understated wonders, turning into a guitar's whammy bar when she sings the song's most romantic line, 'The light just wants to hang around you.'" —NPR
We're also reissuing Free Cake For Every Creature's two releases "Pretty Good" and "Moving Songs" on one handy cassette!

We are thrilled to announce that GABI has joined the DDW family, and we'll be releasing her much anticipated sophomore album this year. You can catch her at our Northside Festival showcase on June 9th as well as an Opera Residency at Roulette on May 31st. Find details for those shows and learn more about GABI below:
GABI (née Gabrielle Herbst) is a composer and vocalist residing in Brooklyn. Herbst’s experience writing for chamber orchestra and mixed instrumentation inspired her to develop a repertoire of short-form, vocal-centric compositions under the moniker GABI. These were driven by solitary explorations in early 2013 with a dual-track loop pedal. The nine songs composed for her debut album, Sympathy (produced by Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) and released on Software Recording Co), embrace the vast potential of the human voice as instrument, story, and landscape. In 2015 she toured Sympathy in Europe and North America - highlighted performances were David Byrne’s Meltdown, Pop Kultur, the Andy Warhol Museum, The Great Escape, Marfa Myths, SXSW, and a series at Roulette curated by Meredith Monk. She is a current Artist-in-Residence at Roulette which, with the Jerome Foundation, commissioned her to compose her second opera, Ashes. She will be studying composition at the Yale School Music in the Master of Music degree program starting in fall 2018. GABI’s anticipated sophomore full-length will be released on Double Double Whammy.
Herbst has premiered her compositions at Roulette, The Stone, Cabinet Magazine’s Exhibition Space, Issue Project Room, HERE Arts Center and National Sawdust. Recipient of the 2011 Artist Residency at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in partnership with New York Theater Workshop, Herbst received commissions from Roulette and the Jerome Foundation, Sugar Vendil and the Nouveau Classical Project, Duo Noir, Fresh Squeezed Opera Company, and Experiments in Opera at Issue Project Room. She is a 2012 Con Edison Composer-in-Residence through Exploring the Metropolis, Inc. as well as a 2013 Composer-in-Residence at Atlantic Center for the Arts. As a featured vocalist she has performed with Valgeir Sigursson, Missy Mazzoli and in Marina Rosenfeld’s Teenage Lontano in the 2008 Whitney Biennial and has recorded for Zeena Parkins, Elliott Sharp, Holy Other, Lapalux, and Steve Hauschildt. She has studied composition with Joan Tower, Martin Bresnick, Marina Rosenfeld and Zeena Parkins, voice with Ilka LoMonaco, and clarinet with David Krakauer. Herbst’s formal training began at an early age, studying Balinese dance and gamelan in Indonesia while learning both the clarinet and piano. She continued her training at Bard College where she studied voice and composition. Her work has been showcased at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center, as well as Roulette, who in 2014 commissioned and premiered her first opera, Bodiless.
GABI will be performing at the Double Double Whammy / GRLMIC / Terrorbird Media showcase accompanied by Marilu Donovan on harp and Mara Meyer on bass clarinet.
GABI will be performing as Gabrielle Herbst at Roulette for an opera residency. More info about the opera and arrangement can be found here.
We'll leave you with this incredible track "Fleece" from GABI's first full length "Sympathy"
"[Hatchie] revels in a billowy backdrop of fuzzed-out guitar, her self-assuredness bolstered by peppy backing vocals." -Pitchfork
"Basically a perfect radio-friendly indie-pop song — if radio stations were still playing perfect indie-pop songs like this — it matches its spangly guitar shimmer with vocal harmonies that sound almost like the late Dolores O’Riordan at her sweetest." -Stereogum
Sugar & Spice will be released on May 25th and you can preorder it right now!
You can expect a number of cool things in the future from this partnership, in fact we've already got one for ya ;-)
Lomelda, Hatchie, and Hovvdy will be kicking off this stacked SXSW showcase. Come celebrate with all of us and stay tuned for the special guest announcement.

We are so excited to announce that Hatchie has joined the DDW family :')
Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, the band will be playing their first ever US shows in March, as well as a lengthy Australian + UK tour. All dates + details below!
Catch up with these two incredible singles from Hatchie, "Sure" + "Try"
Hatchie is the world of Harriette Pilbeam. Having played in other Australian bands, Hatchie is Pilbeam's first foray into solo territory, something she seems undaunted by. "I feel like I'm only just beginning to really assert myself in the world and the Hatchie project has forced me to reassess and make so many positive changes," she says. "When I look back on this period of time, I think I'll see Hatchie as a huge evolutionary force in my life."
The instinctual pop nous is undoubtedly on full display in "Sure," but like all of Hatchie's music, the track trades in shade as well as light. It's at once accessible yet cerebral, walking a line between instant ear worm and something deeper and more oblique. It continues the story that began with pop gem "Try;" a runaway success at home in Australia, which also won Hatchie a fan in Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie. "It's pretty weird being social media friends with one of your heroes" laughs Pilbeam.
"Hazy and misty, but with pop-rooted forward momentum; the glistening guitars and synthesizers, along with Pilbeam's ethereal vocal delivery, evoke (apt) Cocteau Twins comparisons." - NPR
"Transfixing and genuinely catchy - like, turn-of-the-century radio pop catchy." - The FADER
"Shoegazey with a dream pop edge... Somewhere between Cocteau Twins and Sky Ferreira." - Noisey

Today we're so excited to announce that Lomelda will be joining the DDW family. :) The band has also announced today that they'll be joining Pinegrove and Florist on a US tour this fall (dates below). Keep an ear to the ground for new music from Lomelda in the coming weeks, and until then check out and enjoy this past release from the band -youtu.be/3Iw8kNyOJyU
Hannah Read has written and performed as Lomelda for most of her musical life. The project has been her outlet from the slow, shaggy days in her east Texas hometown of Silsbee, through moves to Waco and Austin, and into her wandering present. Her music is textural and spacious. Her words are suggestive snapshots of loosely knitted observations, depicting quiet moments between friends and lovers and half-remembered celestial occurrences. In her songs, the memory of the past and glimpses of future stretch out on either side of you, and the present is unsteady and always shifting.

The vinyl and cassette reissue of Yowler's fantastic debut "The Offer" is available now :)
The reissue includes two bonus tracks, including "Go", on which NPR expressed "no matter the depth of the loneliness in Jones' lyrics, Yowler's songs exert a kind of empathetic, magnetic pull. She might be alone, but she makes you feel alone right there with her."
Pitchfork said about "The Offer" - "The album is a deep, sad comfort, more complex than it first appears, like a pond frozen over and still writhing with life."
Yowler is currently in the studio working on the follow up to "The Offer", keep an eye out for updates in the new year ;)
Today we are extremely excited and privileged to announce that Seattle's Great Grandpa will be joining the DDW family! NPR debuted "Teen Challenge", the first single of the bands fantastic new album, Plastic Cough, and wrote:
"Teen Challenge meanders on a well-defined course of the band's curation: opening with a '90s slacker-rock chord progression; growing into moments of grungy noise; unraveling into poppy, palm-muted riffs; building and faltering; exploding and nearing silence with surprising precision. "Teen Challenge" doesn't sound like a band's first attempt — musically, it exudes a maturation not always associated with adolescence — but the concept comes to fruition in the song's lyricism."
Plastic Cough will be released on LP, CD, and Cassette via Double Double Whammy on July 7th 2017. Preorder the record here :) - http://bit.ly/2qeCxga

A bit more about Great Grandpa:
Great Grandpa began in Seattle in 2014 when guitarist & vocalist Patrick Goodwin recruited bassist Carrie Miller, drummer Cam LaFlam, and vocalist Alex Menne to form a humble rock band. Inspired by the pop-sensible alternative rock of the 90's, and offset by a mutual love for noise and math rock, the group set forth to write and record their first EP.
During recording, guitarist Dylan Hanwright joined the group, solidifying the lineup. Great Grandpa began performing in the Seattle area in late 2014, frequenting the city's DIY venues. In March of 2015, their debut EP Can Opener was released on Broken World Media. The EP was met with considerable praise, and has been described as "warm, slightly off-kilter grunge pop", and "knotty, twisted, and warm rock music that's as melodically satisfying as it is, at times, confounding."
Great Grandpa began writing their debut LP soon after, and found themselves touring the western US and performing extensively in the Seattle area. Written in 2015 and 2016, Great Grandpa's debut LP Plastic Cough continues to explore the sonic territory visited in Can Opener, exhibiting infectious melodies across a range of backdrops, from quiet bedroom-pop to explosive, anthemic rock. Plastic Cough is out July 7th via Double Double Whammy.

Coming from Austin Texas, Hovvdy is the writing and recording project of Charlie Martin and Will Taylor. The two of them, both primarily drummers, first met in the fall of 2014, and quickly bonded over ramen and a love for quiet music. Just a few weeks later, they had combined songs, and recorded their first ep in each others bedrooms and family homes across Texas. Encouraged by positive reactions to their songs on bandcamp, the two committed to each others growth in songwriting and recording, resulting in their 2016 debut album “Taster". The duo have found a unique identity in rhythmic, down-tempo pop songs, that are hopeful, yet melancholy; relatable, yet distinguishable.
Yesterday, Eskimeaux shared the album stream for Year of the Rabbit, their highly anticipated new mini-album. Year of the Rabbit finds the band replacing the highly produced and overdubbed sound of 2015's critically acclaimed O.K. with a more immediate, naturally produced sound, showcasing the sound of Eskimeaux's live band. MTV, who premiered the album stream today are calling it "near-perfect pop" and saying "Year Of The Rabbit balances isolation and connection, love and loss, light and dark - and the beauty of finding everything that lies in between."
Year of the Rabbit is available for pre-order now and is out this Friday, April 15th! Check it out folks!!
Eskimeaux are currently on a full US tour with Frankie Cosmos and Yowler. All dates can be found on the band's website!
Free Cake For Every Creature shared the full album stream for their studio debut, Talking Quietly Of Anything With You this week on Stereogum! We here at DDW have had the pleasure of working with Free Cake on a total of three releases now and we couldn't be more stoked for them. The album is available for pre-order now and will release this Friday, April 15th! Check it out!
Last week Eskimeaux released a music video for "Drunk", the latest single from their new mini-album, Year of the Rabbit. Singer/Songwriter Gabrielle Smith spoke to Nylon about the new song & video.
“I wrote ‘Drunk’ during a song-a-day project I did last spring. As my
life becomes more and more busy with touring and the endless
complexities of being a self-employed artist, small moments of
domesticity like being a little bit drunk walking around with my partner
become welcome breaks from my usual life,” said Smith. “I think this
Year of the Rabbit, is about claiming some control
over my life in a time when things are very chaotic, and about finding
strength in the quiet moments when art is made.”
Year of the Rabbit is the follow up to Eskimeaux's 2015 critically acclaimed debut album, O.K. The mini-album is available for pre-order now and out April 15th.

The new LP from 'Free Cake' is available for pre-order now, and will be out April 15th.
Told Slant, who signed with DDW last fall, have finally announced their long awaited sophomore full length, 'Going By' out June 16th, 2016 on DDW. Today they are sharing the first single titled 'Low Hymnal' via NPR who are calling it "magnificent... dark, delicate indie rock."
'Going By' by Told Slant is available on LP/CD/MP3 in the DDW online shop.
Catch them performing songs off Holdly and The Birds Outside Sang as a three piece band.
